High Speed Drone (in development)

Description

This personal project began from my interest in drones. I have been flying FPV drones for one to two years, and after building several drones from standard drone frames, I felt ready to design and build one entirely from scratch.

For this project, I wanted to create something that most frames on the market lack: a design optimized specifically for speed. In recent years, several creators in the FPV community have gained attention by breaking speed records with their drones. However, these builds often rely on very expensive components and unusually high-voltage batteries.

My goal is to develop a speed-focused drone that is more affordable and uses the same type of batteries as my existing drones, making it easier and more practical to switch between setups in the field.
In addition to this I aim to make the design somewhat modular so it can be made easy for in the future to replace and swap components.

After my first field test I already found multiple errors that made the design unstable for flight. I will iterate once more on this design and test it again.

First test results

After my first test for high speed drone I was able to record a top speed of 277kmph. I did not push it really here.

I flew over a shorter distance as you can see in the video due to legal fly zones.

I got blackbox from a flight later that did go to 303kmph but crashed at the end due to the battery going below 2.5V suddenly.

Many things like camera angle movement, visibility, weight, and overall aerodynamic shape need to be changed for version 2 if i want to go faster. Besides those technical changes there were also issues with the ease of use and repairability of the frame itself that needs to be addressed for the next version.
